A man has been charged with high-range drink-driving after a police pursuit at Bourke yesterday morning. About 3:40am, (Sunday 19 January 2014), police attempted to stop a maroon Mitsubishi Magna on Darling Street for the purpose of a random breath test. The driver allegedly failed to stop and was pursued through the town. While driving along Yanda Street a number of rocks were thrown at the police vehicle by bystanders smashing one of the windows. Police continued to follow the Mitsubishi to Adelaide Street where it stopped at the rear of a house and five people ran from the vehicle. The driver was chased into a nearby house where he was arrested. The 30-year-old man was taken to Bourke Police Station where he was submitted to a breath test and returned a positive result. He underwent a breath analysis allegedly returning a reading of 0.270. He was charged with police pursuit–not stop–drive dangerously (Skye’s Law), drive with high-range PCA and not wear seatbelt. The man was refused bail and appeared in Bourke Local Court yesterday he was remanded in custody to re-appear today (Monday 20 January 2014).
