A man is undergoing emergency surgery after being struck in the head in Potts Point this morning. Shortly after 3am (Saturday 3 January 2015), officers attached to Kings Cross Local Area Command were called to Bayswater Road after reports of an assault at the location. Investigators have been told a 33-year-old man punched a 32-year-old man in the head, causing him to fall onto the footpath. The younger man sustained serious head injuries and was treated by NSW Ambulance Paramedics, before being taken to St Vincent’s Hospital where’s he now undergoing surgery. Police have been told his condition is critical. The other man, who is believed to be a family member, was not injured and is now assisting police with their inquiries at Kings Cross Police Station. A crime scene has been established and is being examined by detectives and specialist forensic officers.
