A man who stalked a woman after allegedly pretending to be a police officer on a dating website has been arrested. The man, aged 24 from Smethwick, was arrested early this morning on suspicion of stalking and impersonating a police officer. A 27-year-old woman met the man, who she believed was a police officer, via a dating website and the pair struck up a relationship. Over three months the man got information from the woman’s phone and threatened her ex-boyfriend. DC Andrew Edwards, from Birmingham East police, said: “The pair broke up and shortly after the victim’s car was damaged, she reported it to her ‘ex’ still believing him to be a police officer. He took a ‘statement’ from her and then staked out her address overnight. “The pair rekindled their relationship until he changed her house keys without her knowledge. Since the second split, the victim received numerous threatening text messages.” Anyone with information, or feels that they may be a victim of stalking, is asked to contact local police on 101.
