A man will appear in court today after a woman’s body was discovered near Murwillumbah at the weekend. About 2pm on Saturday (5 April 2014), officers attached to Tweed/Byron Local Area Command attended a home in Tomewin, about 10km north of Murwillumbah. During a search of the home, police discovered the body of a 53-year-old woman. Local police, with the assistance of the State Crime Command’s Homicide Squad, launched an investigation into the incident. Later that evening, a 61-year-old man was arrested and placed under guard at Murwillumbah District Hospital while he received treatment in relation to a separate issue. About 4pm yesterday (Monday 7 April 2014), the man was discharged from hospital and taken to Tweed Heads Police Station, where he was charged with murder; he was refused bail to appear before Tweed Heads Local Court today (Tuesday 8 April 2014).
