A man will appear in court today following a police pursuit through Sydney’s south west overnight. About 8.40pm (Monday 9 June, 2014) a 14-year-old boy was with his girlfriend at a taxi rank on Queen Street, Campbelltown, when he was approached by a man. The man allegedly snatched the boy’s mobile phone from his hand and punched him in the face causing minor injuries to his mouth and nose. The man ran from the taxi rank with the phone and headed into a nearby carpark where he allegedly got into a green Holden Commodore. The incident was reported to police, and about 9.20pm officers have located the vehicle, allegedly travelling at speed on Briar Road, Bradbury. Police attempted to pull the vehicle over without success, and a pursuit was initiated. Police continued to follow the vehicle through Airds, and St Helens Park where the vehicle mounted the grass median strip causing the vehicle to spin and face oncoming police vehicles. Officers will allege the Commodore accelerated and collided with the front of a police vehicle before fleeing from the scene, eventually stopping down an embankment on Appin Road, Campbelltown. The 31-year-old man was arrested and taken to Campbelltown Police Station where he was charged with robbery, Skye’s Law, and other traffic matters. He was refused bail and will appear in Campbelltown Local Court today. Police are urging anyone with information about this incident to call Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or use the Crime Stoppers online reporting page: https://www1.police.nsw.gov.au/. Information you provide will be treated in the strictest of confidence. We remind people they should not report crime information via our Facebook and Twitter pages.
