A massive thanks to our friend from Paris, Xavier Ridel for this lovely review! The town of Blackpool has seen the emergence of a group well known to all, The Cure. Today, The Colours are taking over and come shouting their Northern words into the ears of the world. Highlights of a first EP, Family (passed unnoticed in France, but was nevertheless excellent despite shaky production at times) very inspired by foals, or WU LYF, the group led by Jake Powell, after six months of pause, have released a single entitled For You. It begins on a math- rock guitar drowned in reverb, bass smoothly highlighted and metronomic drums. And then comes the voice of Powell to just whisper sweet nothings in our ears. And this voice is not without reminding us of a certain Robert Smith. The emphasis of Blackpool is it recognisable? The pain and the rage are omnipresent in this title and are glorified by the vocal chords trembling and instrumentalization. The melody is unstoppable and the chorus comes tirelessly to collide against our neurons from the first listen. The song peaked after a heartfelt bridge on a last chorus supported by a more furious guitar than ever. A very convincing single for a group unknown today but, hopefully, will soon emerge from the shadows and come take their first steps on the French scene. soundofviolence.net/articles/single/3481/the_colours_for_you.html
