A meal we did not want to end. When you are traveling from Los Angeles to Boston by car with two dogs, you dont expect to have a meal youll never forget. We stopped in Effingham, Illinois ( staying at the Fairfield Inn & Suites---great place and Andrea at the front desk is a GEM!), and I asked Andrea for a real restaurant without drive thru service. My partner and I were beat and we deserved a reward for days of journey. Andrea recommended the Firefly Grill. But as we only had shirts and shorts ( nice though) I had her call to make sure it was okay. Sure, come on over...well have a table all set. After a quick shower and shave, we went over to discover this oasis. Its tucked in far behind the Starbucks in this beautiful meadow..with a small pond. Impeccably landscaped with native flowers etc. and a vegetable and herb garden attached to the restaurant. SERIOUSLY? In Effingham, Il? The restaurant itself is in the style of a San Francisco version of a roadhouse with wood, glass, steel, and stone. The staff is incredible. They were so welcoming and pleasant and seated us almost instantly. We were in shock. The shock continued as we ordered the Fried Green Tomatoes( Yup---right from their garden outside!). Amazing. Lexie was our server and she was funny, friendly, and Johnny on the spot. I ordered the Ny. Strip and my partner ordered the scallop risotto and each of us had a salad ( me-caesar, him-capriso). With each bite, we stared at each other in absolute amazement. My partner blurted out, I dont want this meal to end! The owner Christie ( hope I got the spelling right) came over and we had to crow about what an amazing place this was and the EXCELLENCE of the meal. She told us she was living in San Francisco when she met her now-husband ( a chef ) and after returning to Effingham to settle a late relatives estate, she wondered aloud why there was no place to eat? You can see where this is going, right? Bim Bam Boom...FIREFLY GRILL. Los Angeles should only deserve such a restaurant. This is like a roadhouse for foodies and for anyone who truly loves a meal they deserve..THIS IS IT! I ffgrill DO NOT MISS THIS!!!!! #grateful #featuredfirefly
