A meditation on Matthew 7: 1, Do not judge, and you will not be - TopicsExpress

A meditation on Matthew 7: 1, Do not judge, and you will not be judged; because the judgments you give are the judgments you will get. ---- This teaching of Jesus requires continuous and life long reflection, especially if you are a preacher. In fear of judging most of the time our sermons become elusive, superficial and does not help a spiritually hungry congregation. Then we must wonder what is judging and what is not judging? This is the question we must ask all our life. This search needs to be part of each sermon and each counseling session or each conversation we do; because we are judged while we judge. If we evaluate somebody based on our standard and find fault of their standard that is judging. People who are different from us cannot be good Christians is judging. This undermines Gods love for them; we have no business interfering in Gods mercy because they areloved by the same mercy with which God loves us. So we are not allowed to deny the same mercy we get to someone else. If we do that is judging. But what is judgeable is blatent hypocrisy. Jesus condemned the hypocrites and the upper class who tried to define Gods grace on their terms while humility was exalted by Jesus. Jesus also saw divine humility in humble people, not in the arrogant and the proud. It is arrogance to interpret the scripture only around your own point of view. By doing so you are judging a whole lot of people. If you look at others as one who has truly received mercy from God you crucify your self-serving point of view. In this barometer we get to judge no one. Have a blessed sabbath.
