A message from Anne Chapman, VPA President: 2014 has proven to be a very busy and exciting time for the Virginia Production Alliance. We recently launched the new VPA website and are using a new membership software called MEMBEE that contains many useful tools to manage the Alliance. We can use the software to keep membership records, invoice members, manage events, sell tickets and provide information to our members. We are now able to invoice on a monthly basis, so you can join the VPA at any time of the year. This is something that many members have been asking for over the years. We’re confident that the new website and member software will improve our ability to provide vital information and services. Check our new website out at: virginiaproductionalliance.org We have had two exceptionally successful events in the past week. On Friday, January 24, we hosted more than 200 people at our 25th Anniversary Wrap Party at the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts in Richmond. Guests attended the VMFA Hollywood Costume exhibit and honored former Virginia Film Office Director Rita McClenny with our first VPA Lifetime Achievement Award. On Tuesday, January 28 we were at the General Assembly Building for our annual Film Day. We visited lawmakers and provided information about how valuable film production is for Virginia. We have been doing this for a number of years, and each year, especially including this year, we notice that more and more of our lawmakers are supportive of our message. Thanks to all of you who attended these events! Not wanting to slow our momentum, the next VPA event is the Hampton Roads State of the Industry on Wednesday, February 5 at Dupont Sustainable Solutions in Virginia Beach from 6-9pm. This is an extremely popular event for film professionals or those who aspire to be, to get together for networking and fun. Please check out our website for details. We look forward to seeing you there, it promises to be a great night. Finally, I wanted to take this opportunity to thank Former Hampton Roads District Chair Brian Kirwin. Brian has decided to leave his leadership role with the Virginia Production Alliance. I would like to acknowledge Brians dedicated service and leadership. Without his work, the HRVPA would certainly not be the thriving and successful organization it is today. Tiffany Armstrong, Co-Vice-Chair of the Hampton Roads District has taken on the role of Acting Chair for the rest of the 2013-2014 term. We are extremely grateful to Tiffany, who not only stepped in as Chair, but also assumed primary responsibility for the State of the Industry in Hampton Roads at the last minute. Richard Keel and Sarah Kiminski have resigned from both the VPA Executive Board and their Hampton Road District positions. I would like to thank them for their service, they were integral in the reestablishment of the VPA Hampton Roads District. David Hobbs and John Howell are stepping in as Acting Hampton Roads Co-District Vice Chairmen. James Lea is also joining the Hampton Roads leadership team. Thank you one and all.
