A message from Dr. Bob Cartin: For many years, Mission Animal and Bird Hospital and I have been committed to helping those who are less-fortunate in our community. Every year, we provide hundreds of thousands of dollars in pro bono services to rescue groups and, in some cases, to individuals who do not have the means to care for their pets. Two years ago, I joined the board of directors of PAWS San Diego. PAWS San Diego preserves the human-animal bond by providing essential pet services and support to low-income elderly, chronically ill and disabled individuals. Through my work on PAWS’ board, I realized that there was much more I could do to help keep pets with their families. This led me to create the Clifford Animal Foundation (CAF). (Clifford is my late, great golden retriever shown in my Facebook profile photo). The mission of the Clifford Animal Foundation is to provide affordable high quality veterinary services to all community members in need. By providing this care to those who would otherwise not be able to receive it, we help reduce the number of homeless pets and pets being euthanized in our community simply because of lack of resources. The Clifford Animal Foundation is devoted to the loving care of our patients, superior service to all pet owners, professional excellence and collaboration. When we moved to our beautiful new location four years ago, I continued to lease the old location on Mission Avenue. This location will become the nonprofit Clifford Animal Hospital. This hospital will operate very similarly to a community health clinic but for pets. We will be means testing everyone that seeks services through CAF and we will offer sliding scale fees based on income. Discounts will range for 30-50%. I have committed to providing seed funding for the Foundation but we will need outside donations and grant funding to support the mission long-term. The Clifford Animal Hospital will be the only nonprofit animal hospital in the region. I strongly believe that all members of our community should experience the privilege of having their lives enriched through the undeniable benefits the human-animal bond brings. Income status, disability, illness or age should not preclude one from providing a loving home to an animal. Please visit the Clifford Animal Foundation Facebook page and like us and share with your friends: https://facebook/CliffordAnimalFoundation You can also make a donation here: gofundme/406jco Every dollar will make a difference! Keep an eye out for announcements on the opening of the Clifford Animal Hospital, expected in late October.
