A message from MVC Gallery Director M. Giovanni Valderas: As many have noticed the Library Foyer has undergone a few changes in the recent months. The newest being the acquisition of artist Amie Adelmans site specific art installation, Grounded. Ms. Adelman, generously donated the piece of artwork to MVC for the STEM program. In keeping with STEMs vision to increase the number of under represented minorities entering and completing a STEM field of study. Amies piece Grounded hopes to inspire exploration, collaboration and provide an experience unique to MVC students and visitors. Grounded is compromised of 760 individual monofilament threads meticulously interlaced between a series of eyescrews from the ceiling to a pedestal base. Grounded emits an ephemeral glow reminiscent of an Aurora, a natural phenomenon caused by collisions of solar winds and magnetosphere charged particles. In this case, Grounded collisions encompasses mathematical calculations of string, giving the viewer a beautiful illusion of lustrous greens that change from different perspectives.
