A message from PPC, he formally took charge as the Director of IIT Kharagpur yesterday evening. Here is a big thanks from the core team of the PPC for Director movement to everyone (faculty, students, alumni) for their support and for coming out in large numbers and supporting the movement. Signing off. ---------------------------------------- Dear Friends, Yesterday, 26th July 2013, very late in the evening I received the offer of appointment for Director IIT Kharagpur from MHRD asking me to accept the offer and join immediately. Since the Convocation was due the next morning, I felt that it was only appropriate that Prof S K Som, the incumbent Director, conducts the Convocation. Therefore, while accepting the offer last night, I requested Prof Som, BoG and MHRD to allow me to join after the Convocation was over. I am grateful that they all agreed. Therefore today, on 27th July, after the successful completion of the Convocation, the Chairman BoG Dr Shiv Nadar announced my appointment publicly. I have subsequently joined as the Director of our Institute. I am not sure if it has still fully sunk in. But in any case this journey has already begun. I feel it is an understatement to say that the spontaneous outpouring of support from all quarters has been overwhelming. I really do not know how to describe it. Many of you may have felt it in various ways, so you may well imagine how I have and am living through it. We are seeing a spark of the spirit of IIT Kharagpur that we all cherish. I was thinking of giving everyone a Big Thank You. But I guess that is not enough. I believe that the only way is to sincerely try to achieve the dreams for IIT Kharagpur which we all believe can be attained. Obviously it cannot be achieved by a single individual. However, today, when we are all united in courage, strength, hope and capability -- when faculty, students, staff, BoG, Government, anyone connected to our Institute -- past or present -- the scientific community and even complete strangers have all come together to wish IIT Kharagpur well and help hold its head high, I believe we stand a good chance to do something worthwhile. For this, I seek your continued and active support. I look forward to being in touch with everyone of you as we progress into the next stage of our journey. At this moment, I am unable to communicate individually with each one of you, so I request that you may kindly inform all those whom you think would be happy to receive my feelings today. with warm regards PPC
