A message from Sister Makeda: Happy Indigenous Peoples Day. I give thanks for all your love and support. Heres my thoughts on the recent activities regarding Fugerson. Do not believe just the corporate media check out Democracy Now for alternative ground news. m.democracynow.org/stories/14805 The things that most of you dont know is the police were protecting the affluent neighborhoods and they let the looting happen. The KKK raised tons of money for officer Wilson. Dont rush to judgement look deeply and have compassion. Dont be arrogant. This situation is serious and not funny. Rioting is the language of the unheard. It is a miracle that Im here today, as a black woman in a conservative town. Ive had all kinds of bad things done to me growing up here. I was arrested at 12 years old in Barrio Logan for running home from the Rec Center. My mother was there it was horrible. One of the things that sticks around of that situation the police man asked me my name as I was driven to jail, not juvenile hall, but jail, and I said dont you have anything else to do than arrest kids? After they found out how old I was, a detective took me home. Earlier the cop had chased me home and my mom had tried to pull me away from him. In the struggle one of his uniform pockets got ripped and they made my mom pay for the uniform. My mother was a maid cleaning peoples houses in Point Loma cleaning peoples houses and motels. It took her so long to work and repay something that was so unnecessary. There is so much more to tell and I will tell you in my book. As a teenager I got arrested for stealing my car which is felony. The charges were dropped but years later I applied for a job that needed a security clearance and the felony was still there and had to go to court to have it dropped. So you see growing up in San Diego as an African American was not easy and its been the same across all cities in America. It has been open season on Black and Brown folks. But now now all colors of people are standing together and saying no to injustice all over the world. I fight injustice by raising my level of level of conscious with love and compassion and alleviating suffering.
