A message from our Principal. Tomorrow morning at 11pm the school will have a lockdown drill. The drill will be explained at an age appropriate level to all students (very carefully to early years of course) before it occurs. The lockdown drill is a wise precaution in the event of an issue occurring that requires the students to be moved immediately to a place of safety as far as is practical within a school environment. I would like to answer some specific questions here; 1) Is this drill as a result of a specific threat or heightened level of threat? No, not at all. The drill has been on the calendar for some time. These drills take places within all Nord Anglia Education Schools around the world and are part of our safeguarding procedures. 2) Will you be working with the police to ensure fast response in the event of a potential issue? Yes. Al Barsha Police have been extremely helpful and will be sending representatives to continue our discussions. 3) Will the children be alarmed by the drill? Some small degree of alarm is possible yes. We aim to be wholly transparent about the nature of the drill while not raising the issue too severely. We do not discuss in detail any of the potential scenarios but they focus around an intruder or intruders. Clearly in Early Years the matter is made into a game so children are not upset. 4) Are your security staff briefed on dealing with intruders? Yes. Clearly we are a school and we take all responsible and practical precautions. We are not though a bank vault and children must not feel as if they are attending a prison. However a lockdown drill is a practical and pragmatic part of our preparations. If you do have questions of concerns please do not hesitate to contact me. Michael Embley
