A message from the commanding officer: To all of the family and friends of the Sailors and Marines underway aboard the Mighty KEARASARGE greetings! The KEARSARGE Navy and Marine Corps Team continues our focus on being prepared for any tasking that comes our way as a crisis response force. To that end, we continue our daily routine of sailing the ship, cooking for the team, keeping our Sailors and Marines flying safely, maintaining our systems and equipment (and ourselves – the gym is pretty packed and the level of fitness is amazing among the crew), and training across all of our departments. You can be proud of your Sailor as each and every one of them has performed magnificently. The ship continues to meet every mission and the crew is as upbeat as ever - despite the time away from home and all of you. I also wanted to express my gratitude for understanding the fact that we have been intentionally silent on email, phones and Facebook (except for this page) for the past few weeks. I think I heard an audible cheer when I announced to the crew that we were able to once again contact all of you. Hopefully your Sailor has been able to do so already. Please know that this silence is directly related to maximizing the safety and security of all of our Sailors and Marines and this ship. To that end, whether we are able to communicate or not, I need your help in maintaining our operational security (OPSEC) when you do interact with your Sailor. Where we are exactly and what we are doing is something that we all need to ensure we don’t discuss. Thanks again for all of the love and support. None of you are ever far from our thoughts. Keep the mail coming – it’s like a party every time we get it! The smiles are huge and the excitement around the ship is great to see. Take care and thank you for all you do on the home front while we are away! Very respectfully, CAPT Rick Nielsen
