A message of hope Local resident, Karin Engman, proudly introduces her first book, “A Path of Choices” which was recently published. She shares her journey of healing, after the tragic life event of the loss of her brother, which initiated this message of hope. Karin, known to many as an inspiring woman of hope, faith and compassion, has had a passion for writing since her high school days. With a love for literature, reading and writing, she has always found comfort and a means of escape in the written word. Writing had always been a means of self-expression for Karin and she lived out her talent in the form of letter writing. She wrote of her travels, sharing her experiences with loved ones and friends. “Friends and family would comment that the letters were so descriptive, that they could see, in their minds eye, the image I was portraying and sensed the emotion poured into those letters of my adventures” Karin told the Ermelo Insight. The earth shattering event, which set the ball in motion for this books’ compilation, came three years ago, with the sudden and tragic death of her beloved older brother. She explained that a series of bad choices and a destructive life style, tragically stole her brother away, leaving a wake of devastation behind. Disbelief and un-answered questions added to the already overwhelming heartbreak of losing her brother, whom she had a close bond with. As her painful road to healing started, she found that writing was her best means of expression and release. A year after his tragic demise, Karin was presented with the opportunity of a platform for her written work to be shared with others. Karin decided to grab this opportunity and started writing a weekly piece for a column in a local newspaper. What started out as a healing process, one piece at a time, as she started to come to terms with and making sense of the tragedy which had transpired eventually became the motivation for this book. Although this particular book was not planned and not what she had in mind as a first book, it comes as a message of hope, written with emotional honesty. It is an inspiring gift for anyone who has ever felt hopeless. After her brother’s death, Karin made a promise to herself that she would make his life count for something and use the tragedy to inspire those who need healing and hope. The crucial message, which is imbedded deep in her heart and which she wants to carry over, is to inspire people to not lose hope and to recognise their self-worth.
