A message to those working in the community trying to help with the homeless epidemic in this country.. I hate to break to you but a lot of ypur well intentioned hard work is a waste of time and should be refocused... for example contrary to popular belief events and charities raising canned food DOES NOT help homeless people in any way shape or form unless your organization is donating it all to a soup kitchen or free dinner/lunch/breakfast program.. homeless people have nowhere to cook the canned food you donate most cant even open the cans because how many homeless peopke carry around can openers.. think about it.. the canned food you raise and donate goes to low income families NOT to homeless people... you know what homeless people really need?.. a community center that offers showers and has lockers they can sign up to store their stuff and community laundry and hair cut services and a free book and clothing bin.. that community center could also serve as a mailing address.. it could be staffed by volunteers and only open in the morning for a few hours to prevent it from becoming a loitering spot.. the lockers would have to be signed for and would not be for storing food items and drug free.. a program like that would be more practical and would do more for helping the homeless in this country get back on their feet than anything ive yet to see proposed thus far.. charity towards such a program would radically change the local communities in your area.. lets make this dream a reality.. -Thief Sicario
