A middle age woman in the village of Kakuru some five miles from Kamakwie in the Bombali District met her fotune in the form of manner from Heaven in a garden near her house. According to the woman Ya Alimamy, she was saw a shiny stone caged in what she likened to the shell of a tortoise, saying after she took this stone in the shell she called on her brother Pa Simbo in the village who had dealt with gem stones for some time now. Ya Alimamy said after her brother looked at the stone in the shell he broke it out open and found in that shell was an attractive shinny stone which he confirmed to be a diamond the size of the big toe. He advised his sister to take it to one man who is a licensed dealer in gem stones and other minerals in Kamakwie town for proper check. According to the woman and Pa Simbo, the dealer did confirm it was a diamond and weighed it and reported it was thirty carat of diamond, after which he handed the diamond back to Ya Alimamy and her brother to decide what they want to do with the diamond. Knowing diamond to be what it is Ya Alimamy said, she straight off knew she had seen the hand of God from Heaven drop manner for her for life, so she decided to take two other people to escort her to Makeni to do further check on the real weight of the stone as it was now clear that it was indeed a diamond she found in her garden. When they left Kamakwie for Makeni on that day and arrived safely in Makeni, they made a first stop at one office where it further proven that the diamond is eighty carat, and that was the time she received the first call from the Paramountb of Sella Limba PC Kandeh Luseni III that the woman returns back to him with the diamond because he is able to guide her through, she accepted to return. They went to another place for maybe, this time round to do the last check on the stone, and there they found out that the diamond was over one hundred carats and no sooner that was done than the Paramount Chief called again asking Ya Alimamy how far in returning back to Kamakwie. She finally resolved to return to the chief in Kamakwie. Upon arrival in Kamakwie the same night, she went to Paramount Chief and handed him the diamond then the chief told her to go home and come the next day, but due to the distance from Kamakwie town to the village, she delayed for a day and reported on the day after. Ya Alimamy said when she arrived at the Chiefs place immediately without delay the PC handed the diamond to her and instructed her to take it to the LUC in Kamakwie Mr. Superintendent of Police Tamba Kargbo aka Live Wire because, as he put it to her, he does not want to be involved in this. Ya Alimamy asked why must she take the diamond to the LUC and not leave it with him and he replied the woman “take it there and tell LUC I sent you to do so”, she explained. As soon as she arrived at the Kamakwie Police station, officers took the diamond and started telling her that it was Lead and not diamond, adding that only one Police officer was able say indeed it was a diamond but the officer was shouted at by seniors, The LUC Ya Alimamy said wrapped the diamond in a white A4 paper and then into a brown long envelop in the presence of one Mr Janneh, a worker of the National Minnerals Agency NMA who signed on the envelop before the LUC locked the diamond in his drawer and dismissed the woman. When contacted via phone Mr Janneh acknowledge signing on the brown envelop but said the LUC told him the diamond has been handed to the AIG in Makeni. Where is the diamond remains a mystery while the poor gardner woman is everyday in tears in her village because she is missing out her life to the hands of unsympathetic persons who want to make it at the detriment of others... Investigations continue in Freetown and more details of whether indded the LUC has handed the diamond to his boss AIG in Makeni, where did the AIG (if and only if) take the diamond to, how it turned to Aluminium and what is the fate of the poor old Ya Alimamy of Kakuru village in Kamakwie town will follow in subsequent edtion of the investigations.
