A middle aged woman, identified as Oyetunji Funmilola, was on Monday arraigned before an Osogbo Magistrates’ Court for allegedly crushing a 5-year -old boy, known as Ishola Banji, to death with her car and injuring one Taiwo Olumide in the process. The accused was said to have driven a vehicle recklessly along Dada Estate area, Osogbo, the state capital on September 29, around 6.30pm, crushing the victim. According to the police prosecutor, Mr Fagboyinbo Abiodun, the accused drove the vehicle with registration number Osun AA698 TAN in a dangerous manner along the public high way, saying the offence committed by the accused was contrary to and punishable under section 5 of RTA cap 115 vol. 6 laws of Osun State of Nigeria 2003. It was gathered that the injured Olumide was rushed from the scene to an undisclosed hospital where he was receiving treatment. However, the accused, Oyetunji Funmilola pleaded not guilty to the charge of manslaughter levelled against her. Her defence counsel, Barrsiter Teju Kolawole, urged the court to grant the accused bail, saying his client is still presumed innocent until the contrary against her is established by court. The presiding Magistrate, Adebayo Lasisi, granted the accused bail in the sum of N500,000 with two sureties, explaining that the sureties must be landowners within the court jurisdiction and must include her husband or parents.
