A miracle happened today. Know how we have mentioned some missionary apartments having 4 to 6 feet of water in them? Power outages,no water to shower, landslides and many homes washed away, many people killed and missing. These are horrible things to happen and not positive things to witness or have to deal with. But this is not really what has made it hard for me when I look back on all of this. The miracle that changed everything for me, happened today while I was having an interview with Mission President. We had a long talk for about 2.5 hours. We talked about how much stress we have been feeling and how we felt like it was a process of just enduring to the end at this point. He was quite disappointed in us feeling this way. So we talked and talked, and we realized that the real reason we were feeling so displaced was not because of the disasters around us. It was because there was a feeling of leader missionaries, assistants to the President, district leaders etc.. that were all focused so much on numbers and getting a lot of work done and enforcing the rules that the mission was losing the spirit of Love and companionship. It was really feeling like a job, especially around the office. But every leader in the mission was looking for disobedience. A place where they look at what you might be doing wrong instead of trying to catch someone doing something right. The office no longer was a place Missionaries went to seek for a shoulder to lean on, but they were told not to come here unless they had to come. I always felt this was a mistake. But today we talked and came to the conclusion that each missionary should be responsible for their own success,and that Lording over them would accomplish nothing. The most important thing was to have a spirit of Love and companionship. If ye are not one ye are not mine the Savior taught. I felt a huge load come off my shoulders. I know that this will be the key to bringing a spirit of excitement and comradery back into the mission. I am so thankful that this conclusion was reached. I know that this is a miracle that will change the lives of those who are involved. I am so happy that It took my point of view to help this come to pass. But I only had this perspective by knowing great Leaders such as President Morgan and Bishop Westover who showed me that it is not a scarey thing to get called into their office ha ha :) That love is the most important ingredient in the gospel of Jesus Christ. So happy and relieved that we are going to be headed back down the road of love. After all we are trying not to just convert those who have not heard the gospel but are trying to train the leaders of the future to be Bishops and Stake Presidents. I cant think of a better characteristic than to learn to love and extend a hand of Mercy to Our Heavenly Fathers Children. So the miracle that makes me feel rescued from the stress, while all around us is in comotion, is that I know that we are coming to love and forgiveness. I already feel the spirit here improving. I look forward to our next leadership meeting where we will discuss that our highest priority has got to be to come to love. :) The perfect start to our new year. :)
