A mom asks: How can I prepare my children for the expected death - TopicsExpress

A mom asks: How can I prepare my children for the expected death of my grandmother? My grandma was recently diagnosed with dementia(long time coming), and in the past 2 years, her mental capacities have decreased exponentially. She will most likely be in assisted living soon. I have had 6 family members pass away in a 6 year period when I was 5 - 11 yrs old, all were relatively sudden, except for my grandfather. From what I have been told, I do not expect her to live longer than another year or two. We will hopefully be visiting her soon, and I do not know where to begin. I would like them prepared for what to expect. They were able to carry a coherent conversation with her(minus some loud talking for her to hear), but by the time they see her, she may not even know who they are. Are there any books about grandparents aging and dying that would be appropriate for 8 and under?
