A mom says: my 7 and 9 yr old daughters were diagnosed - TopicsExpress

A mom says: my 7 and 9 yr old daughters were diagnosed adhd/anxiety at age 5 and 6, and I have a 3.5 yr old not yet diagnosed... All three adopted at birth. The few years prior to diagnosis were tearing our family apart. The oldest has been on meds since then with great success. The 7 yr old has also been on meds... Which we have to tweak. My 7 yr old also benefits from gluten free diet and essential oils so please understand I do use natural things. My oldest has it bad enough that any natural ways do NOT work enough for her and I have come to believe I need to do whats best, even if that means meds, for her rather than worry about backlash from my crunchy friends. Anyway, I thought they had it so super bad... Until Im seeing so many red flags with our youngest and our family is once again going through the pain and stress that comes before a diagnosis. Her birth parents had ADHD, she was exposed to pot in utero, was born early, and extremely low birth weight (never catching up). Obviously all red flags for future diagnosis for ADHD... She had therapist involved (speech, OT, nutritionist) ages 0-3 and all said they were just trying to delay a diagnosis and help her lessen the severity because it was clear what she was up against. Anyway, Im really concerned. Its clear she has it worse than any of our others. Weve tried dietary changes, homeopathy, essential oils, etc. Nothing works. Her energy is crazy higher than any peers. But the focus (lack) and impulsivity problems far more concern me. Please do not tell me all children are hyper at this age, for she is not even close to comparable to the other children. Shes been asked to leave a church class due to not being able to focus like the other kids (faux Paul on the church, I get it, but still) and it just feels like its getting worse so fast. All this to say, what is the youngest your child was diagnosed? Did you try behavior therapy first or meds or what? Im scared I wont get my pediatrician to touch this with a ten foot pole
