A moment of clarity. We read a lot of noise here about having survived. Shoe sales. Hang nails. Christmas checkout cashiers at K-Mart. And we read a lot about how we live with our scars. And how we should draw inspiration from the trauma of life. We also read excuses for being depressed, withdrawn, overwhelmed, or deprived of cable just as Nashville comes on. Ok. You got it tough, do ya? Then, Im going to assign some homework, here. Go to the Players for Pits Facebook page, and look up the updates on a dog named Kora. Kora was abandoned by her owner, in an empty apartment for two months. When she was found, they thought she was dead. Rescuers found a very weak pulse and took her to a vet where she was expected to be put down. She was unconscious, dehydrated, starved to literally to a skeleton, with sores on one leg down to the bone. Her liver panels were very bad. Kidneys failing. Organs in shut down. Pictures of Kora are hard to look at. Painfully hard. Look at them anyway. Get a sense of what she went through. Now, the vet hydrated her immediately, and kept her warm. With IV fluids and nutrients, she came to, but was so weak she could not walk. She could not stand, she could not lift her head without help. She was so hungry she about took the fingers off the attendants who fed her. BUT... She was not angry. She was not hostile. She was not afraid. She didnt mistrust people. In a matter of a couple of weeks, Kora, uneasy as she was, stood up. Took a few tentative steps and fell on her face. And got up again. And as soon as she had gained a bit of weight, she was put into a foster home, where her care continued. There are videos of Koras state when she was found. And more videos of her progress. Which is ongoing, today. The amazing thing about Kora, is that through all the abuse, through the abandonment, and interminable hunger, eventually to her unconsciousness...and her rescue....Kora hasnt lost her charm, her affection, nor her spirit. Through it all she did NOT give up. And she did NOT let her ordeal break her. So, Ive got a question for you. What the hell does SHE know, that most of us ignore?
