A moment of thanks yous are in order ... as I created the Sports Wire because there were no way of show casing the athletes from Laredo in College sports programs. Well the last seven years have been an adventure of ups and downs as all things human are. Yet, in the mist of it all among the long hours and longer moments getting the pictures, videos, and information out. I have found so many people have been well super cool with me even when we write stuff that they dont agree as we often have to do as sports analyst and sports columnist. I found my roots again among the people that I had been acquaintances with over the years. The Nixon Tailgate was the latest encounter the last three years that has placed me more in touch with so many. Once they realize Im the SPORTS WIRE GUY. The talks quickly have turned to MIJA MIJO grandson are in sports, and they give their information and we try to follow up on those athletes where we can on how we cover sports news on the Sports Wire. Today reflecting on such encounters I am with a sadness that we lost a friend I retouched life with during those seven years. She was not living in Laredo but through the Sports Wire she said she kept up with the LAREDO CHISME. She was very ill the last two years and could not make the tail gate this year. She only went to Nixon two years her freshman year and half of her sophomore year and her dad was sent over seas with the Air Force. She remembered a few names here and there relying on her W Bar of her Freshman year to try to put the names with the pictures on people posting on Facebook. She felt she did not know anyone since her time at Nixon was short. I got to know her cause in that summer between the freshman year and the sophomore year I would spend my summers at the LAFA at the bowling alley inside the base. My dad had a military status and we could go in as dependents even though my dad was in the US ARMY. She would spend the Saturday afternoon with us at the Bowling Alley and then we would rush to the movie theater inside the base. Which is where the Laredo Little Theater is now. She would tell us about the ghost at the old bowling alley inside the base on how he died at the alley and it s now AUTO PHONE of Laredo building. I got word this evening she passed after a strong battle against breast cancer through an email from one of her older sisters. Rest in peace Mary Alice you fought a courageous battle against cancer your family misses you and will never forget you.
