A movie I never bothered to own, but think I should go about doing - TopicsExpress

A movie I never bothered to own, but think I should go about doing so is The Black Cauldron. I remember seeing this when it came out when I was a child with my father. It was a very unusual film for Disney, at a time when they were really feeling their oats, and taking some rather unusual risks. This would include The Black Hole (a really dark and creepy scifi) and the first Tron. They left aside the dancy singy light hearted stories and tried some stuff a bit more grown up. Now what made this film special are some things most people dont attribute to this film, it was the first to use the Disney logo with the white signature over the Cinderellas Castle. It was also the first movie to use CG in an animated feature. Although Tron was the first in a live action. Disney never really liked the movie, and this didnt release it on home video until 1998. While I would never say it was a good movie..I will say its not as bad as many people think...its just hard to think of it as a Disney film as it is lacking the happy characters, jilty animation, and not a sing song and dance number and a number of really bad edits. It was however at the time of release, the most expensive animation ever made, and one of the most expensive movies ever made of any kind. Hard to believe when watching it though.
