A name is a very important thing. What set man on top of the food - TopicsExpress

A name is a very important thing. What set man on top of the food chain was that he was given the ability to name things. Things lower, things greater, but all things, were mans to name. My name was carefully thought out by a young man of 18 years. Our father let him decide what to call me. He decided that Mark was a fitting first name. But what really showed me how much thought he put into naming me was what he gave me for my middle name. George Charles Fuqua III was very intelligent and thoughtful, at the time. He said my middle name should be Allan, because I was born on January 19th--like Edgar Allan Poe. And now, 56 years later, I have pubished a non-fiction book, and am preparing to publish my first novel, next year. My brother...sure was smart. He held me over the edge of a 400 ft.cliff when I was about 7, at a State Park in Illinois, so I could see what was down there.; I had no fear because George was holding me. He was 64 230 lbs. of Muhammad Ali and Martin Luther King all rolled into one. His favorite way to talk to me, he learned from Dad, the Socratic method; there were always questions asked of me that I had only an inkling of the answer to. Georg taught me that you should wear nice clothes and put on a splash of cologne. He kept his fathers name...because a name makes you important. And thats why I demand that my students, those who know me, and those who know of me, dont think that you can call me pimp because I have to walk with a cane because of an injury. Dont call me Obama, or Martin Luther King. My name is Mark Allan Pierce, and I have a name because of George Charles Fuqua III. Thank you, my brother/ father. What a great morning to meet the man who gave you your name. Hallelujah, you are now, finally home. Rest Well.
