A name says a lot about a man. If theres one thing worth being - TopicsExpress

A name says a lot about a man. If theres one thing worth being superstitious about, its a name. Ive never understood people giving their children horridly common, meaningless names. I reflect upon the great care the ancients of all venerable cultures placed on the names of their children. Instead of renaming children after themselves, as my father did with his meaningless name which his father bestowed without thought or care... as his father before him did, etc... a Greek father would likely have rather named me Antipater (meaning: like the father.) I reflect upon the names of men who were named for their destiny. Alexander, The Savior of Man. Marcus Aurelius (the Golden), the philosopher king. I think about the value God Himself places on a name. Abram became Abraham, Jacob became Israel. Christs name was commanded, St. John the Baptists parents were commanded what they should call him... and Heaven sent to me that a boy was coming, and supplied a name. Popes choose new names. New names are given or chosen at baptism and confirmation. Men do not exist without names. The rewards of Heaven includes a name. When exorcists extract demons, the demand names... even Christ demanded the names. In the name is power, because it is supposed to signify REAL things... thats why syllables are arranged to signify meaning. A name is an important thing, a mysterious thing.
