*A neutral view on hooligans & our fan base.* As a supporter of Rovers since the 90s, I have never seen such division within the fan base. As supporters we must accept that we are all different. I do not condone hooliganism at all & I feel its a huge negative to the club, BUT I dont blame the lads who are in the group. As a young lad I had an identity as a Rovers fan, I was a Pop Sider - this meant I sang, I was in a group of passionate Doncastrians, we had banter with the away fans, then had a pint with them after. It was a brotherhood where you knew everyones face & you sang together as one. The club must take responsibility for creating a sappy family atmosphere which these frustrated lads has revolted against. Again, I think any violence or vandalism in the name of DRFC is stupid but as it stands that is their identity. I call on the club to create a singing section in the West & give them a POSITIVE voice. I also ask that the back two or three rows of the away stands be reserved for singers so standing isnt an issue. The SLOs are a good link between the club and fans, lets get in their ribs & create a culture which is loud and proud BUT positive. Give them an identity. We are the famous Pop Side!
