A neutron is an electrically neutral subatomic particle. Every element except Hydrogen has one or more neutrons in its nucleus. Neutrons have a slightly greater mass than protons. The number of neutrons in a nucleus determines the isotopes of an element.While the bound neutrons in nuclei can be stable , free neutrons are unstable; they undergo beta decay with a mean lifetime of just under 15 minutes.
