A new BUAV undercover investigation has revealed the Living Nightmare for the monkeys of Mauritius. Every year, thousands of monkeys are exported from Mauritius and shipped to laboratories around the world. Today, we can reveal the true horror of what happened next for the poor monkeys sent to a leading European laboratory. Watch our new film now (Warning: some viewers may find it upsetting): youtu.be/lHsmeFNaT6w Known only as ‘CM28’, the little monkey pictured here was born inside one of the vast breeding farms on Mauritius. Born to once wild parents, CM28 was sold and exported to France when he was only two years old. He reached his final destination, the Max Planck Institute for Biological Cybernetics in Germany, in September 2013. Three months later he was dead. In the three short months CM28 was at the laboratory, he experienced unimaginable suffering. A ‘head chamber’ was surgically implanted into his skull a month after his arrival. This resulted in bleeding head wounds which nine days later became infected with MRSA. Clearly distressed by the foreign object implanted into his head, CM28 would often pick at the wound, obviously in great discomfort. After being used in one last experiment, CM28 was killed on 4th December 2013. He was only 5 years old. Sadly it is too late for CM28. There are thousands of monkeys in Mauritius right now who, completely unaware, are destined for a living nightmare like CM28. But with your help, we will do all we can to save them.
