A new cable series, set in an alternate-reality Victorian London, begins this May. Like True Detective, this will have 8 1-hourlong episodes, the first 2 of which are directed by Juan Antonio Bayona, of El Orfanato and The Impossible, and has been written by John Logan (Skyfall) with Skyfalls director Sam Mendes producing. Its called Penny Dreadful, and airs in the US on the Showtime (Homeland, Dexter, Nurse Jackie.....) channel. sho/sho/penny-dreadful/home It stars Eva Green (isnt she in everything these days?), Josh Hartnett, Timothy Dalton, Rory Kinnear etc., and evokes The league of extraordinary gentlemen, though the movie version left tons to be desired.
