A new friend of mine who describes himself as an old drunk believes that people who are happy in their lives are either severely deluded or heavily medicated. The sound of childrens laughter and the sight of rainbows makes him want to vomit. He is not the kind of person that you would turn to should you need a pep talk opting instead to dig his heels in and agree with you about how shit everything is. At a meeting last week, he held me up for a half an hour afterward simply to kvetch about some sort of portable foot spa that his granddaughter bought him for his birthday calling it a pricey bucket. Ive been having a rough few days. He tells me life sucks donkey dick. I laugh. He tells me that you cant trust anyone in the world. I trust him implicitly. He tells me that no one in the world truly cares about you. He calls me this morning to see how Im feeling. He tells me that no one truly listens. I could listen to him moan for hours and he loves how hard it makes me laugh. He may or may not think that I dont know what hes doing. I dont care.
