A new, hugely important study lead by The 5 Gyres Institute finally seeks to quantify our ocean trash situation and reveals that more than a quarter million tons of toxic #PlasticPollution is floating in the world’s oceans. That works out to be 5.25 trillion plastic particles weighing about 269,000 tons. The good news is, we don’t have to go out and clean the oceans, and if we stop adding to the problem, the oceans will clean themselves.
