There he was by the window in uniform gazing out into the sky. Whats gonna happen when she turns two and I am not here to see it. We will get through this they told you its only two months. She came up behind him and wrapped her arms around him. We can do this together nothing is gonna stop us. As they stood their a black SUV rolled up to the front of the house. Well i guess thats for me i promise i am coming home to you Angela. We are gonna watch our little girl grow up together. He picked up his bag and headed out the door. As he was getting in he took once last glance at his family and whispered I AM COMING HOME. As the vehicle pulled away she felt the sense he wouldnt come home he worked for a huge private security firm and it was always risky. But she had hope she knew what John did was dangerous but he always came home to her and he always meant it. She was washing dishes in the kitchen and a week had passed and she still had no word on her husband John thats when she saw the SUV driving up the street she ran to the door to wait for him to come in the door. She was shocked when the doorbell rang because he usually just opened it when she opened the door there were two uniformed officers was standing there holding a flag. Mrs Tanner may we come in please. Yes come in please I escorted them to the living room where they sat down. I knew what was coming I braced for the worst. Mrs Tanner we are sorry but your husband was killed by an IED in Afghanistan we are sorry for your loss the country thanks him for his service. I lost it why I screamed he cant be dead he was supposed to come home! The one officer got up and came to sit next to me and wrapped his arms around me and said Mrs Tanner I was with your husband when it happened he told me before he died to make sure he got to tell you he loved you before he died. As he finished the officer pulled out his phone and pulled up a file and hit play. Angela the voice said raspy and barely recognizable but I knew it was him it continued Angela I just want to say how sorry I am that I wont make it home and see our baby grow up. Just then he coughed and then continued I want you to tell her daddy loves her and will always be with her and babe I Love You I mean that now and in the grave I mean that. He coughed again and then it went silent it was the end of the recording. I began to weep uncontrollably at the thought of him laying their bleeding out and trying to tell me he loved me. The officer asked me if they needed to stay for awhile and help me contact johns family for me but I told them that I could do it myself thanking them for their kindness I showed them out and went to the bedroom to weep for the loss of my husband. It must have been hours before I awoke it was late in the afternoon and I knew it was time to go pick up Lily from school and tell her the news.
