A new radar sent up to the International Space Station is the latest instrument to measure wind speed and direction on the sea surface quickly, for use in Cyclone tracking/prediction. Previously the type of measurement they would get on developing hurricanes would have been done by several passes by a plane, for which does not happen in Australia.
