A new scam is going around where callers are claiming to be from the IRS. Calls are mostly coming from the 202 area code- see numbers below. Remember, government agencies will not direct you to pay them via a cash card or other non-traceable methods. You can always call the agency back at their publicly listed number to verify the legitimacy of the call. The reports we have received from community members who thought they were being scammed have said the calls are coming from the following numbers: 1-202-241-1562, 1-202-241-8402, 1-202-241-7950. This isnt a complete list, but some to watch out for. Be safe out there, and if you are the victim fo a scam, report it to your local law enforcement agency. Lets get the word out there so we can protect each other!
