A new study suggests that oxytocin is key to social skill development in infants: A ‘cuddle chemical’ released during breastfeeding could hold the key to forming social skills in babies, a new study suggests. The hormone oxytocin, which is produced by women during pregnancy, while giving birth and in the production of breast milk, may have a profound impact on how infants interact, scientists think. The chemical could be used to treat developmental disorders such as autism as a result, the researchers suggest.
