A new update from Dana MarieHi everyone! My mom and I went to NY yesterday and had a long visit at Sloan. My oncologist Dr. Victoria Blinder has come up with a plan to try and get this breast cancer under control. I started Chemoterapy today! Im on a chemo called Xeloda. It is a chemo that has been able to be marketed in a pill form. The IV form is called 5-FU. Xeloda is an aggressive chemo. I am taking 1500mg in the morning and 1500mg at night for 7 days straight. I then get 7 days off. In two weeks I see the oncologist again and if my side effects are tolerable, she will up the dose to 2000mg twice a day. Her goal is to have me on it for 2/3 months before a rescan. At that point I will get a CT Scan and PET Scan to see of this treatment works. If it is working like I (we) pray, then I get to stay on this drug again for 2/3 months before the next scan. If NOT, then I have to go to straight IV Chemo. There is no other pill option for me after this. IV Chemo and pill fo chemo are the same as far as strength and side effects for the most part. The biggest difference is quality of life. IV chemo depends on me going into the city and sitting for infusions of the drug weekly, and hair loss. Pill form chemo allows me to take in the comfort of my home and the privilege of not losing my hair. Im always hoping for a treatment to work, but this time IM REALLY HOPING for it to work!!! Its getting scary now. My liver is in trouble of this chemo doesnt work. My lungs are in trouble if this chemo doesnt work. I AM IN TROUBLE if this chemo doesnt work. But I pray and I thank you all for the prayers...and I hope and I trust in God that this will work. My Dr. said if it works, she has no reason to think it wont continue to work for some time. Thats a great thing to hope for. So thats what we are all doing. Hoping and praying and putting faith in God. I thank you all for your continued support and prayers! Ill keep in touch again soon!
