A new update on baby Kellyn. She has been in surgery since 9:30 - TopicsExpress

A new update on baby Kellyn. She has been in surgery since 9:30 this morning and will need 3 more hours of surgery. Please pray without ceasing. Heres our nieces post, shared with her permission: Update: Good news is that Kellyn is alive and tolerating the surgery OK so far. The bad news is that her infection, inflammation, scar tissue, etc was a complete mess in her chest and it took them 1.5 hour just clear out all the gunk to find her esophagus. When they found her esophagus, a significant part in the middle was damaged and no good and needed to be cut out. That leaves with her with a gap that is too big to connect the good parts back together without some advanced surgical procedures. Therefore, our surgeon recommended that he do a gastric pull-up TODAY, which basically would pull our daughters stomach up higher into her abdomen and turn the top portion of her stomach into a tube shape resembling the esophagus shape and the bottom part of her stomach would still be a smaller, somewhat circular shape. Basically hes somewhat reconstructing her stomach and pulling it up higher. This is not an ideal option and there are a lot of negatives of this that shell likely have to deal with throughout her life, but her surgeon thought it was the best choice for her specific situation. If we waited on this surgery, it would become extremely more complex and theres a chance the esophagus wouldnt be healthy enough to even be repaired. The surgeon said that if this was his daughter, this was the surgical decision he would make for her. Since weve been praying for wisdom and guidance throughout this whole situation, we feel that her surgeon is making the proper decision and I do feel like this is the best option given the not-so-great alternatives. This gastric pull up surgery is very complex and serious and will likely take another 3 hours or so to complete. *** URGENT PRAYER REQUESTS: Please pray for Kellyns surgical team that they maintain their strength, stamina, and guidance from God. Please pray that Kellyn makes it through another several hours of complex surgery without any complications. Please pray for her complete and speedy recovery with minimal pain. Please pray that Kellyn will lead a relatively normal life with eating foods, minimal acid reflux (common side effect of surgery), no more surgeries or esophagus dilations, and maintain good nutrition and development. Thank you so much! ****
