A new victim of the tourist industry: A new species of Primulina - TopicsExpress

A new victim of the tourist industry: A new species of Primulina (Gesneriaceae) was found in 2008 growing in the ceiling of a limestone cave in Debao County in southwestern Guangxi, China. However, the new species allready has to be treated as ‘Extinct in the Wild’ (EW) since the walls of this cave was cleared and plastered with cement mortar in 2010 (as a measure to promote tourism). The species still exists in cultivation though, and is described in this paper as Primulina debaoensis Neng Jiang & Hong Li sp. nov. onlinelibrary.wiley/doi/10.1111/j.1756-1051.2013.01805.x/abstract
