A news story this morning brings a law to light that drivers need to be aware of: implied or unmarked crosswalks. mynews3/content/kutner/story/metro-las-vegas-traffic-owens-lamb-dui-suspected/AL1aoHU5iEyjvLuaFQiyYA.cspx Last Monday, a sixth grade boy began crossing the street just west of Owens and Lamb. He was struck by a pickup truck and went to the hospital with serious injuries. His leg was broken and head scarred. He wasnt in a marked crosswalk, but he was near enough to the intersection of the two roads to be in an implied, or unmarked crosswalk. Anywhere two public roads intersect, pedestrians are allowed to cross from shoulder to adjacent shoulder. For drivers, it stands to reason that since intersections are the most dangerous sections of their commute, extra care should be taken when approaching them. A pedestrian standing on the corner with intent to cross has the right of way. Its interesting to note that more injuries happen to pedestrians in marked crosswalks than implied ones. This is likely because the pedestrians themselves are less cautious when stepping into the street on a marked crossing. We need to be aware when walking on the street. We may have the law on our side while on foot, but that wont make us feel better after being struck by a car. If youve been injured in an accident, we can help: (702) 382-0000.
