A nice day spent in Hingham. One of my chores is to search for items that disappeared during the week. It has become like a weekly scavenger hunt, with a different list of somewhat unusual items each time. Anybody who has dealt with a loved one facing the challenges of Alzheimers or dementia can understand what I am talking about. Today, I was able to find the mop (under the table saw in the cellar), the lasagne (on top of the dryer downstairs) , the toilet plunger (hanging from the cellar rafter), the new garden hose (under the guest bed) and the shower mat (in the bottom drawer of a bureau). I could not find the carpet cleaner or window spray, but was able to discover a couple of items we did not know we should be looking for. Such as Oreo cookies in the toaster oven, and bags of trash in the shop vacs. I hate that we have to watch this steady decline, but can also appreciate the humorous side of this. Such as being named as the one who keeps putting things in the wrong places, and being treated as a somewhat fragile child because I keep losing their stuff. So glad that I am there to help, and apparently also glad that they put up with my bizarre habit of hiding things on them.
