A not to be missed chamber music concert will be presented at Chapel by the Sea by the TRIO OF THE AMERICAS on Thur. at 7PM, March 20th, 2014. The TRIO consists of World Class musicians - violinist James Rapp, cellist Jose Alfredo Mazariegos and pianist William Dawson. The program includes the masterwork Trio No. 1 in d minor by Felix Mendelssohn as well as other works by Schumann , Chopin & Arvo Pärt. A special feature of the concert will be a World Premiere of a work by Fort Myers composer & pianist, William Dawson. This lively & entertaining work is entitled “River Suite” and is based on well known traditional songs which pertain to rivers e.g. “Suwannee River”. The three performing artist have impressive professional backgrounds. Mr. Mazariegos will be traveling from his native Guatemala where he is Director of the Escuela Superior de Arte at Universidad Galileo. He has a long and illustrious career as Principal Cellist and Assistant Conductor of the Orquesta Sinfónica Nacional. He has concertized at numerous venues throughout Latin America and North America. Violinist James Rapp is a graduate of Juilliard in New York. He has performed at the Aspen Music Festival and played under the legendary conductor, Leopold Stokowski, at Carnegie Hall. Mr. Rapp is a resident of Fort Myers. William Dawson, pianist in the Trio, has enjoyed a long career as professor of music in Miami and Texas. He is an alumnus of the Curtis Institute of Music in Philadelphia where he studied with the world famed concert pianist Rudolf Serkin. Mr. Dawson completed his graduate studies at Yale University. He has been soloist with the Boston Pops and has given solo and chamber music concerts in Europe, Latin America, Asia & the U.S. The concert is open to the public with no admission cost. A free will offering will be taken.
