A note about the Autumn Equi-not I hope everyone enjoys their Autumn Equinox celebrations. As usual we have more than one date to consider. Tuesday 23rd is the Calendar Equinox and approximately the time when 50% of the light gained by Summer Solstice will have been lost. In practice the Equinox Point is well before sunrise so my figures will show that 50% has been reached on the 22nd. However, Equinox means ‘equal night’. This date occurs after the Calendar Autumn Equinox but before the Calendar Spring Equinox. This time the closest thing to an equal night will be on the night of Thursday 25th. For me the sun sets at 7:02p.m. and rises again on Friday at 7:02a.m. Signifying the start of the dark half of the year. Whereas on the 23rd there is a full 10 minutes of extra light compared to the dark.
