A note from Laurel, owner, formulator & master herbalist behind Sequoia Beauty... Why Sequoia Beauty Serums are Better than the Best! Yep, I really just said that. Don’t get me wrong. I have other skin care lines that I look up to, admire their formulas, appreciate their ingredients… maybe even some other products that sneak their way into my own medicine cabinet. But when it comes to serums, ours are just plain ‘the best’… or at least I think so! And here’s why: 1 – 100% certified organic ingredients. I know a lot of you are like ok, its skin care, I’m not eating it! So why does this really matter?? I’ll tell you. First of all it matters to our planet. ‘Cheesy!’ Not exactly. For example, in 1 drop of Rose Essential oil there is as many as 60 roses! So imagine a farm that produces Rose Essential oil, and how much acreage that is actually covering. Second, it matters to our aging skin! It has been clinically proven that organic ingredients contain on average 40% more antioxidants than conventional ingredients. The only reasons skin care lines choose conventional is those ingredients are cheaper, and I wouldn’t accept that for my own skin – so I don’t for yours either! 2 – Our essentials oils are of highest quality possible. We purposely do not use mass produced commercial essential oils. We have chosen to obtain our essential oils from Veriditas Botanicals. Owner, Melissa, is on a personal mission to connect formulators like me with small artisan organic farmers around the globe. She believes in the power of biodynamics, she knows her farmers, and she is vocal about the imperative need for the mass acreage farmed for essential oils to be certified organic. 3 – Our carrier oils are always organic and unrefined. UNREFINED. This is something not often talked about it the cosmetic industry. Unrefined oils are not pretty. They are often green, red, orange, or brown, and they smell nutty* to say the least. It is much easier for a cosmetic manufacturer to use a refined oil that is clear or pale yellow, and smells of a faint chemical residue. They can easily manipulate that into something that smells as delightful as synthetic strawberries! However – those refined oils not only contain traces of USDA approved toxic chemicals, but they have also been washed clean of the majority of their antioxidants! With Sequoia Beauty, you may be getting something that smells a bit earthier than something more commercial – but you can be sure you are also getting something more pure and more potent. 4 – Our in-house proprietary blends. Yes, if you don’t know about them, our blends ROCK. Our proprietary blends are in each of our Sequoia Beauty serums. Our blends start out as adorable little plants on a farm, all grown within 100 miles of the bay area where we make them, all certified organic, and most certified biodynamic. The farmers we work with harvest the plants exclusively for Sequoia Beauty. We have carefully chosen which plants go into which serum’s proprietary blend based on skin type for each serum. We then blend those chosen plants with different organic oils and mediums in a maceration. Our plant macerations sit for 1-3 months in order to fully absorb the medicinal qualities of each plant! We say hello and give them love everyday. Then when they are ready, we press those proprietary blends by hand, and incorporate them into their appropriate serum. They are labor intensive, time consuming, and effective. We couldn’t do it any other way. Where do most extracts come from when they aren’t made this way? Online. And where does the world wide internet get those plant extracts? Your guess is as good as mine! There is absolutely no substitute for processing these ingredients ourselves.
