A note on reactive dog classes: These will be a regular weekend - TopicsExpress

A note on reactive dog classes: These will be a regular weekend feature at Doghouse, meaning class is on every Saturday at 1pm except in special circumstances, including bad weather. Our aim is to create a stress-free environment for training, and that doesnt include being soaked and freezing! The format of class is designed to set your reactive dog up for success as much as possible. Most of the time one or two dogs will be out and working at a time, while the rest relax in their cars between sessions (a crate is highly recommended). Dogs and handlers maintain enough space from each other that dogs are aware of each other, but not close enough that they are unable to focus on their handler. Because class takes place on private property, we are able to avoid the sort of surprises (cars, bikes, dogs appearing from nowhere) that can cause your dog to have a meltdown and set back your training. This lets your dog learn to focus under mild distraction, and having positive experiences around other dogs can help change their association from a potential threat, to something that predicts treats and good times! Your dog wont only learn to be more calm and focused, but will also pick up better leash walking manners and other skills as they progress. Youll learn how to read your dogs mood, how to predict and deal with problem situations and how to help your dog succeed outside of class. If this sounds like something you and your dog could benefit from or you want more detail, see contact details below. I may need to meet your dog for a private session before deciding if they are suitable for class, and in some cases you might be asked to fit your dog with a muzzle (safety first!) There are a maximum of six dogs per class at any time, so bookings are essential. If youre not sure how your dog will cope, youre welcome to observe a class on your own before committing to a session with your dog. Where: 50 Whites Mill Rd, Underwood When: Saturdays, 1-2pm Cost: $15 per lesson Contact: Megan 0407 432 307, doghousetas@gmail or via facebook.
