A noteworthy thing about this (Brendon, help me out nah?): Abdullah al-Andalusi says in particular that one shouldnt judge anothers private affairs, and for the most part that is the truth, but at the same time he makes a judgment about not only whether something is sinful but, tacitly, whether or not being proud of ones identity means you have to give up your Islam. I mean, if being who you are is a sin - regardless of if someone thinks youre entitled to your decisions - theyre making a judgment of your worth still. All the resulting issues of that aside - no two people of faith are alike, after all - it still rings of youre not muslim, which I think is unhealthy. After all, the counter to this is that anyone who doesnt appreciate other peoples healthy, respectful, maturely approached desires in an air of compassion and love cant possibly be ideally muslim either, because their submission is to the judgment, and not compassion. The real question, I suppose, is whether we live in a world where two muslims can disagree about whether each other is a true, compassionate, truth-seeking muslim. Because if we dont, I think we open the floodgates for them both - the LGBT muslim who is told he is a fajir, and the other man who tells him so - to be persecuted and done wrong to.
