A number of the Ace Double series of detective/mystery novels - TopicsExpress

A number of the Ace Double series of detective/mystery novels leave me at sea when trying to dig up any information about the authors and cover artists. Of the four wonderful covers here Ive only been able to determine that Paul Rader did the cover for Kill Me With Kindness (1959) by J. Harvey Bond which was a pen name for Russell R. Winterbotham an American writer of western and science fiction who used the Bond name for his occasional crime novel. The talents behind Murder Mistress (1959) by Robert Colby and Dangerous To Know (1959 and making use of my favourite pun in the tag line) by James P. Duff are unknown by me. The Guilty Bystander (1959) by Mike Brett makes a nice tag line reference to a song from the film Gentlemen Prefer Blondes. This novel is one of two he wrote featuring Sam Dakkers, a bald, homely bookie forced into the private eye trade. There is even a bit of mystery about exactly who Mike Brett was. Al Hubins Crime Fiction IV claims its a pseudonym of Leslie Frederick Brett, but provides no other information. Rory Brett, however, claims Mike Brett is his father, Michael Brett, who wrote about ten novels a few years later about private eye Pete McGrath.
