A number of years ago I along with around 6 other Washington Green - TopicsExpress

A number of years ago I along with around 6 other Washington Green artists, was commissioned to paint a scene that had the theme of an Audi car that was to be showcased at a new gallery that was to be housed in a large new Audi showroom in Glasgow. While everyone else did some amazing paintings with the latest car designs of that particular make I decided to do something a wee bit different. The cottage that I was renting at the time in Northumberland was owned by a lovely lady who owned a really old beat up morris minor and I know, call me cynical or mischievous but when I saw this wonderful old piece of British engineering I thought “Now that would be the ideal car to paint for the show housing all these German manufactured machines” So I got my model to pose next to the car and did this painting and just to liven things up a tad more I decided to title the piece “vors brokesprung durch technik” based on the new Audi adverts that were going around at the time using the new“ vorsprung durch technik” catchphrase, for the poor old morris looked like it had a broken spring on the front end suspension but the Audi people said that “ we don’t “broke spring” anything in our cars please change the title. So I decided to change the title to Scrapheap Challenge”. The funny thing that happened a few years later was that in the painting, I had made up the car registration plate GADG13 just for a laugh but I got a call from my publisher that someone actually had that number and wondered if I wanted to buy it. If you would like a copy of this print you wont find it in any gallery as its long sold out but I do have one copy left on my website alexandermillar
