A one week meeting sponsored by the Vanuatu Government was held from the 10th-14th of March 2014 in the Lelepa Presbyterian Memorial Church of Lelepa Island, Natapao Village, Vanuatu. This brought together development experts in agriculture, education and communications from diverse backgrounds across Melanesia that saw 47 participants from Vanuatu, Papua New Guinea, Solomon Islands, New Caledonia, Maluku, West Papua and Fiji. The first two days focused on the Melanesian Indigenous Defense Land Alliance designed to address the constant threats that customary landowners in Melanesia face from mining and logging companies to name a few. The Honorable Minister of Lands, Ralph Regenvanu, presented on the status of Land Reform in Vanuatu and recent amendments to the Vanuatu constitution governing land.
